RHOI-Uganda Commissions New Education and WASH Infrastructure at Akuoro-Olupe Primary School Serere District, Uganda | August 2026

Akuoro Restore Hope Initiative – Uganda (RHOI-Uganda) has successfully commissioned a new education and WASH infrastructure project at Akuoro-Olupe Primary School in Serere District, marking a significant investment in improving the school’s learning environment, sanitation and access to safe water. The project was made possible through generous support from Nepal-Inzlingen and FLY & HELP, two German organisations supporting education and community development initiatives.

Expanding Access to a Better Learning Environment

At the heart of the project is a new three-classroom block, fully furnished to provide learners with a more conducive environment for teaching and learning. The additional classroom space is expected to help address infrastructure constraints at the school and contribute to increased enrolment.

Strengthening Water, Sanitation and Hygiene

The project includes an integrated girls’ WASH facility with sanitation facilities, a PWD-accessible latrine, and a two-stance boys’ pit latrine. These facilities will improve privacy, dignity, sanitation and hygiene among learners, while promoting a safer and more inclusive school environment.

The project also includes a borehole, providing a reliable source of water for the school. Access to safe water is essential for handwashing, cleaning, sanitation and the effective use of the school’s WASH facilities.

Improved School Kitchen and Food Preparation

The project further includes a kitchen integrated with a store and fitted with running water, providing an improved environment for food preparation and storage. The facility is expected to contribute to improved hygiene in food handling and more organised food storage.

Partnership for Sustainable Community Development

RHOI-Uganda extends its sincere appreciation to Nepal-Inzlingen and FLY & HELP – Germany for their support towards the project. The partnership demonstrates how collaboration between local organisations and international development partners can help address critical gaps in education, water, sanitation and hygiene infrastructure.

RHOI-Uganda remains committed to working with communities, government and development partners to improve health, education and social well-being among underserved populations.

RHOI-Uganda appreciates Nepal-Inzlingen and FLY & HELP for their partnership and commitment to transforming lives through education, WASH and community development.
